Why You Should Go 'Green' With Your House

The purpose of this article is not to labour on and deliberate about climate change or global warming, in some respects we are all aware of the effects and how detrimental those effects can be to our environment.

This article is simply a guideline on why it has now become imperative to green your home and how that will benefit you the householder and your environment.

Why a Green Home?

The UK goverment and other countries have made proposals, put plans in place and written policies for many years on the issues of climate change.

The homebuilding, property and construction sector has now incorporated those goverment issues within their respective services. For example 20 years ago it was extremely rare to find a builder buying and fitting solar panels for householders? That is because the UK goverment was not aware or clued up as they are now about these global warming issues. In recent times we have our leading scientists and other disciplinaries to thank for raising our awareness on these concerning issues.

There are legislative powers in place to ensure by 2020 that all new homes built from scratch must have zero carbon emissions and be eco-friendly homes. The UK goverment are also working on proposals for existing homes, flats and period houses to ensure that these householders furnish there houses with these renewable energy features or supplies. So whether we like it or not all existing homes and new builds will be subject to these changes, become more sustainable and you the householder will benefit in the longterm. That is why it is necessary to green your home today?

What are the renewable energy features?

Solar roof panels, ground source heat pumps, sustainable timber, energy efficient light bulbs, A rated boilers, re-use and recycle, glazing and insulation.

Solar roof panels can provide a natural source of light throughout the house, which means less usage of electricity. Having solar heating panels fitted for water supplies can be extremely beneficial, where you can subscribe to enough free hot water that is pumped into a water cylinder. "yes that's right free hot water".

Applying the right type of glazing for windows and doors coupled with insulating the entire house will restore the heat and save you the householder thousands of pounds on fuel bills. Combined heat power is a boiler that produces electricity and hot water together and ground source heat pumps is underfloor central heating.

There are too many renewable energy feaures to state, however the few stated above should furnish you with a liile insight in how to start greening your home and reduce those emissions.

The benefits for you the householder?

The first benefit that springs to mind is a "financial" one albeit not the most important. Having renewable energy features fitted throughout your home will save you up to £500 per year on household fuel bills, like water, heating, gas and electricity. There are thousands of people in the UK still paying for last years fuel bill and I welcome anybody to challenge me on that?

The other obvious benefit is the impact these renewable energy features will have on our environment. The more features you have, the more emissions will be reduced, the cleaner the environment, the vast improvements you will see within your lifestyle. Ultimately we should all be striving for a happier and healthier world to live in.
